There is one particular film we have wanted to screen ever since we started in 2009, but consistent niggling licensing issues made it impossible. Well, those issues have been resolved finally, so with immense pleasure we are able at last to announce our screening of Milos Forman’s 1975 film.
This performance heralds the launch of our new season of films, simply entitled “CLASSICS”, and there’s no other way to get started than this legendary, bonafide CLASSIC piece of cinema, that scooped the “Big 5” Academy Awards (Best Picture, Screenplay, Director, Actor & Actress) in 1975, a feat not achieved since 1934’s “It Happened One Night”. Pivoting on Jack Nicholson’s screen-devouring, reputation-sealing turn as borderline madman and convict Randall McMurphy, Forman’s film version of Ken Kesey’s influential novel is an unadulterated treat from start to finish; overflowing with stellar performances throughout, it is a stunningly realised balance of equal parts devilishly funny and heartbreakingly tragic.
One of The Great American Movies, hardly ever on the big screen – you lucky people. No plot spoilers here – you have to come see for yourselves.
