Hub Services

Film Hub NI exists to grow audiences for film across Northern Ireland.
We do this by offering a range of services which can be accessed by all members –
from film specific arts organisations to community cinemas and all those in between.

Film Hub NI has two open calls for investment – these take place in March (for activity from April – September) and September (for activity from October – February). This grassroots scheme is open to all members of the Hub and is assessed by an independent panel of industry professionals.
Guidelines and application forms for investment can be found here.

As part of our ongoing commitment to develop the skills of the sector, Film Hub NI can provide bursaries as a contribution to fees, travel, and accommodation to enable your attendance at relevant film festivals or advanced screening opportunities.

Bursaries cover only ticket price only: any additional fees (such as booking fees, travel insurance, baggage fees, etc.) will not be covered.

Car hire and fuel costs will not be subsidised.

We will attempt to find comparable accommodation in the same area at a lower rate and may be able to negotiate discounts. If we find a cheaper reasonable alternative to your estimation we will only subsidise to this amount.

We understand it is difficult for programmers to see new films before they’re released in Northern Ireland. We will cover entry fees to ICO screening days, Access Cinema Viewing Sessions, or Film Festival passes/ticket packages.

We will pay fees for training courses related to cinema exhibition such as: audience development, marketing, technical skills.

Bursaries are capped at £350 per event and are subject to the approval of Film Hub NI. Bursaries cannot cover any costs incurred before approval and will be paid following the production of valid original receipts. Where possible Film Hub NI will make payment directly, on behalf of our members.

In the event of incurring higher costs than originally expected, you may claim an additional 5% of your initial estimate if Film Hub NI deems the increase unavoidable and the total amount requested does not exceed £350.

If you are interested in applying for a bursary, please use this form.

We provide training through a variety of different organisations. We work with the Independent Cinema Office to offer courses throughout the UK. Details of courses can be found on their website.

We’ve also hosted events such as Cinema for All’s Community Cinema Weekend and also deliver training ourselves – we’ll keep you posted of all training events on this website.

Information, support and advice

We’re happy to happy to advise all our members on any aspect of film exhibition including programming, marketing, audience development and technical requirements. Just give us a call or drop us an email. We’re also up for meeting over coffee to have a chat about how best Film Hub NI can support you.

We also communicate with you via our monthly email newsletter and the weekly email which includes the Indie Box Office column – a roundup of the week’s independent film releases compiled specifically for Film Audience Network members, written by The Guardian’s Charles Gant.

Part of Film Hub NI’s remit is to strengthen and build on the current infrastructure and a key aspect of this is developing a community of film exhibitors who work together, share best practice and provide a good sounding board to others in a similar field. We run several networking events throughout the year and would encourage all members to come along.

Equipment Hire

Film Hub NI hosts the Cinema for All Neighbourhood Cinema kit, which is a quality kit suitable for indoor screenings in small-medium venues. Equipment hire is free for an initial test screening and after that £25 per screening for members of Cinema For All and £40 for non-members in the first year of hire. Hire for non-volunteer led groups or commercial groups is £65. More details of this scheme are here.

We are regularly offered opportunities which we pass on to our members – these range from free film hire for certain titles, discounted rates for events, members only events, preview screenings and more. We’ll add these to the website and send through in our monthly newsletter.
