Japan Foundation: Sensei, Would You Sit Beside Me?
The Japan Foundation Touring Programme presents the romantic comedy Sensei, Would You Sit Beside Me? (2021)
A psychological game of cat and mouse ensues when love affairs are exposed in Horie Takahiro's comical yet piercing look at what makes a marriage survive.
Sawako works as a manga writer. Her husband of five years, Toshio is also a manga writer but suffers from writer’s block. Sawako suspects he is having an affair but instead of confronting him directly, she finds a more creative way to drop the hint: she begins to write a new manga dealing with adultery. Peeping in the work by Sawako, Toshio begins to suspect that she may know that he is having an affair and comes to believe that Sawako may be having an affair of her own.
The Japan Foundation Touring Film Programme 2023 is organised by the Japan Foundation, with Major Support from the Great Britain Sasakawa Foundation, with Sponsorship in Kind from SUQQU, Athletia, and Clearspring and in Cultural Partnership with The Japan Society and JAL.
