First time Danish director Gustav Moller’s debut feature is Denmark’s submission to the Foreign Language Film Award of the 91st Oscars, having taken home the Sundance World Cinema Audience Award earlier this year.
Asger Holm (Jakob Cedergren) is a police officer assigned alarm dispatch watch, who finds himself drawn into a super-tense race against time when he answers an emergency call from a kidnapped woman. Despite focusing entirely on a single individual speaking into a headset, The Guilty triumphantly emerges as a twisty, taut crime thriller, that’s every bit as pulse-pounding and involving as its action-packed, adrenaline-soaked counterparts. Highly enjoyable, challenging viewing.
