The Men Who Won’t Stop Marching + Q&A
Screening as part of a retrospective of documentarian Alison Millar, The Men Won't Stop Marching (2008) is a year in the life of Shankill Road's marching bands. Followed by a Q&A with Millar & star Jordan McKeag
The film will be followed by a Q&A with Alison and the film's subject, viral internet star Jordan McKeag.
In 2008 Alison Millar spent a year filming the marching bands of the Shankill Road. Amongst the men she follows is Jordan, an eleven-year old aspiring drummer. Millar discovers a mixture of entrenched prejudice, relief that the troubles are over, nostalgia for the days of paramilitary discipline, and a battened-down resistance to talking about the past. There are tender moments in the film too – revealing the trauma attached to the past, exploring Jordan’s relationship with his father.
Alison Millar Retrospective
Alison Millar’s documentary about her friend Lyra McKee is one of the most skillfully made and meaningful documentaries to ever come out of Northern Ireland. Docs Ireland will examine Alison’s early career, and track the fascinating journey of work that led to the creation of Lyra. Alison will join us for both screenings to discuss the films.
