Women Run The Screen

In Northern Ireland, we are lucky to have in senior positions at the QFT, Cinemagic, Foyle Film Festival, Strand Arts Centre and Belfast Film Festival, women who have long experience in the exhibition industry.

Over the next four years, we will facilitate a programming group that brings together experience and passion to strengthen the long term impact of women on NI’s exhibition culture.

Film Hub NI have committed to promoting and fostering gender balance within the NI exhibition industry, and ‘Women Run the Screen' will utilise the strength of our senior female programmers to mentor junior programmers across the sector.

Young women (18-30), who wish to learn more about programming and exhibition will be assisted by more experienced members of the sector to deliver a tour of NI members. Programming will adhere to F-Rating standards (already adopted by QFT) within our parameters of British, Irish, independent and specialised film.

The project will be delivered through facilitated meetings in Belfast and Derry and mentoring meetings, with marketing and admin support delivered by members and Film Hub NI.

The project will be launched as part of this year's WANDA Feminism and Moving Image Festival (1st-4th Nov), with a panel discussion featuring Karla Healion, Roisin Geraghty, Alice Butler and Sophie Brown, chaired by former Head of QFT, Susan Picken.

This event will take place at 2pm at Accidental Theatre followed by networking drinks at Queen's Film Theatre at 6pm.

This event is free and can be booked here.
